RackMountSales - There are a number of things to consider when looking for the best type of leak detection for your data center. One thing to keep in mind is the surrounding environment as it relates to the data center. Is the data center in a basement of a shared facility? Where are the bathrooms located? Are there other water sources on the floors above or adjacent to the data center? Where do the water lines run? Is the floor in the data center level? Are there low spots? These are a few of the typical questions that should be addressed to help determine what type of water sensor and where to install the water sensor in your data center. water sensorTypical water sensors are either a spot type (single water sensor), or a fluid sensing cable type which can cover a much larger area. These types of cable are known as conductive fluid sensing cables as they will detect more than just water. The water cable will alarm at specific lengths along the cable for detecting water. When mapped out, you will know within one to two feet where water has been detected on the cable. In larger areas, sensing and non-sensing cable can be combined so only water sensing cable is used in appropriate zones within the data center. (only around water sources such as HVAC systems etc.) fluid sensing cableWater sensing cable can also be tied directly to pipes, providing critical alerts as soon as water is detected on the pipe. Water cable uses a conductive cable twisted and separated with a non conductive cable. When water is present, it causes the conductive cable to create a connection and triggers an alarm. The conductive fluid sensing cable is plenum rated, easily bends around corners and wraps around pipes while resisting kinks or bends. The cable is easy to install and is very durable.
